October 14th -- Happy Birthday

A fantastic Happy Birthday to my sister. For the many hours of conversation and imagination, here's a collection of randomness celebrating the day:

Resume my Resume

I'm sitting in a coffee shop updating my resume to include the ramblings of my past four years.

There is a pair of young girls next to me, swooning over their senior year book page by page. "This is Robbie's page!" "Oh, this is a sweet pic!" "Check out Austin--sooo cute!"

Even though I spent my morning researching the DES and my eligibility, I wouldn't go back to high school if you paid me.

Update: it is a girl and her friends mother!! Dear goodness.

terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

Me and my invisible castle...

Last night I couldn't get to sleep and when I finally did, I forgot to turn off the light.

I woke up this morning on the wrong side of the bed, grumpy and late. I didn't have time for a shower. I forgot my delicious lunch in the fridge. I misplaced my phone charger, so I'm now relying on my last bar. I was given the evil eye when I walked into my 9:00 meeting at 9:02. The guy who moved his desk next to mine decided my space was the best place for the junk around his desk. I scratched my new "thanks for drafting" bracelet when I tried to shelve it all. Then at lunch I was yelled at by the burrito Nazi's for not deciding fast enough. The burrito trash blew into my lap towards the end of lunch. Fwhap!

Today is my sister's next to last day working in the same office, which is great for her, but I'll miss her terribly. In the attempt of soothing myself with some lovely mental health tea, I somehow spazzed and spilled boiling hot water on my upper arm. (Don't ask me how!?) Soaked in hot tea I rushed to the bathroom to get my sweater off. Unfortunately part of my skin came with it. Half-dressed, I tried to cool the burn in the kitchen and was scolded for my methods. While my arm was being dressed, a coworker made a smart ass comment, saying I prided myself on being too tough and that I didn't deserve that kind of sensitivity. He's an ass.

Now I'm cold and wrapped in gauze with no good story to go with it. Plus I have an HOA meeting tonight, although all I really want to do is curl up with Ryan and watch a movie...

It's been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day...
Maybe it'll be better tomorrow.

What are you looking forward to telling your grandchildren?

TED2008 kicks off this week, with one complete session streaming free to the world. I am continually excited by this lecture series, and usually work through my afternoons with stories of drinking machines and amphibian love running in the background.

Attending TED is now on my list of things I'd like to experience in my lifetime. It is right up there with going to the Olympics and learning how to parallel park from a high-speed perpendicular direction. (A $6000 ticket, though, is going to require a bit of conscious saving.)

In the mean time, IDEO is letting us play at home... or at least letting those with Vista play.
The Big Questions -- a widget that gives you one big question a day.

"What are you looking forward to telling your grandchildren about?"

That's a pretty damn good way to start the day.
